Social Events
The programme features four exciting social events: a Caribbean-themed BBQ by the lake (weather permitting!), an immersive spatial audio performance featuring acclaimed voice artist, Reeps One, a banquet at the historic manor house, Loseley Park, and a Rock & Roll walking tour in London.
Welcome Reception (3/Sept)
At the end of the first day we will treat ourselves to a Caribbean-themed BBQ by the lake, featuring a steelband.
Performance (4/Sept)
Following a drink reception at Wates House, we will move to the Ivy Arts Centre (on campus) for an immersive spatial audio performance specifically designed for DAFx in collaboration with acclaimed voice artist, Reeps One. At the end of the performance we will move back to Wates House (Green Room) for a seated buffet dinner. The event is sponsored by Reality Labs Research (Meta), with the performance receiving significant financial support by Surrey’s Institute of Advanced Studies.
Banquet (5/Sept)
The banquet will be held at The Tithe Barn in Loseley Park, a 16th century estate situated in 1,400 acres of glorious rolling countryside. The ancient oak barn was once used to store tithes – a tax taken from the produce grown by medieval farmers to support the church. The event is sponsored by Soundtoys.
Loseley is a short 10 minutes ride from the conference location. We will get there by bus, picking us up at 6pm outside Rik Medlik (main conference building). The same bus will shuttle us back to campus over the course of the evening.
Walking tour in London (7/Sept)
On Saturday morning we will make our way to central London by bus (departing 08:50 outside Rik Medlik) to experience The Great British Rock & Roll Walking Tour. Before the beginning of the tour, those of us bringing luggage for our onward journey will get a chance to store it in a shop. At the end of the tour, we will head to O’Neill’s in Wardour Street for lunch (not covered by DAFx). If you’d like to return to Guildford, you will have to arrange your own travel.
